Order a copy of a certificate

During the coronavirus pandemic, you can only order copies of certificates online.  It can take up to 10 working days to process your order and post it to you.

We need to be able to find the original registration before we can make a copy. Make sure you are able give us the relevant information.

You can order a copy of:

  • birth certificates
  • death certificates
  • marriage or civil partnership certificates

Due to current high volumes it can take up to 10 working days to process your order and post it to you.

There is a different process for ordering adoption, citizenship, naturalisation and gender recognition certificates.

How much it costs

Certificates cost £11 each, plus £3 (recorded delivery of up to 5 certificates). 

After you've applied

If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership took place outside of Scarfolk

You must contact the local authority in which the event occurred or apply for a certificate – GOV.UK.

If you are applying from outside Britain

You can only order from the General Register Office – GOV.UK

If the event took place before 1 July 1837
